“The Divine Image” In the first stanza of “The Divine Image” in Songs of Innocence, Blake states that everyone prays to mercy, pity, love, and peace. Individuals pray for these to express their need for them and appreciation for these desired components of life. Blake continues to explain that mercy, pity, love, and peace are the essence of God as well as the human heart, face, soul, and actions. He finally states that in reality, when people pray, they pray to themselves because people were created by God and therefore are a direct manifestation of God. This poem represents the complexity, uniqueness, and genius of the human design. This poem stands out above all others because it recognizes that despite religion, race, or nationality, everyone should respect one another because every person is essentially the same, a representation of God. “Nurse’s Song” “Nurse’s Song” in Songs of Innocence illustrates the innocence of children. The children’s’ caretaker called them inside, explaining that the sun would go down soon and that they have to stop playing.
