The purported Saddam recording said the current Muslim holy month of Ramadan would be "the month of victories." "The Iraqi people should elect their leaders from those who had served them for several years, even if they did some mistakes," the tape said. "This should be done freely after the withdrawal of the occupiers." Al Arabiya officials said the statement was played over the telephone by an anonymous caller, but said they were sure the tape was authentic. President Bush said Sunday: "It's propaganda, and, you know, we're not leaving until the job is done -- pure and simple." The current president of the Iraqi Governing Council said Sunday that Saddam is alive but not "so brave or so strong" as to be coordinating recently intensifying guerrilla attacks on coalition forces.
