what is experience

What is experience

The distinction between familiarity and experience is crystal clear on the
surface but their correlation leaves much to think about. ...   Experience is everything observed and lived through. ...   Everyday life
is an experience from waking up to going to bed and everything in between. ...   However if one is
familiar with the causes of a given event then they know an extricable amount
about the subject rather than just simply being well versed in it (experience).
In Aristotle’s Metaphysics, he says for the purposes of acting, experience does
not seem to differ from art at all and people with experience are more
successful than those who just have a rational account, logos if you will,
without experience (Book I, 981a 13). ...   The
question being why is one with logos that leads to techne, know how (skill or
craft) wiser than someone with just experience.  Aristotle believes that knowing
and understanding are more present in art than in experience and that the
possessors of these arts are wiser than people with just simply experience (Book
I, 981a

25).  So a man with experience might be more successful than a man with just
logos, but a man with logos is wiser.  Aristotle goes on to say further:
For people with experience know the what, but do no know the why, but the others
are acquainted with the why and the cause. ...
For Aristotle there are obviously important relationships between logos,
practicing an art or craft and having experience. ...   Experience he says is a
familiarity with things that are particular and that art deals with things that
are universal (Book I, 981a 16). ...
In all of this talk about wisdom experience is the one draw back but still the
key.
