Pre-deforestation The robin population was large and thriving. They were large in size and were a variety of colors and had different shaped and sized beaks. There were three apparent varieties of robins, which I will refer to as Groups A, B and C. Robins in Group A were brown, had reddish-orange breasts, and medium width and length beaks. This group nested in the trees and fed on fruit and insects that were on the trees. Robins in Group B were brown, had blue chests, and also had medium width and length beaks. This group nested in the shrubs and fed on fruit and insects on the shrubs and in the soft ground. Robins in Group C were grey, had orange and blue speckled breasts, and had long narrow beaks. They nested in the rocks and sides of cliffs and fed on insects and worms that dwelled on or just below the surface of the rocks and cliffs. Deforestation All the trees, shrubs, and topsoil were wiped out. As a result, fruit and berries were no longer present. Insects that lived in the trees were also no longer present. The temperature on the island rose and the air became drier due to the lack of shade the trees provided and the moisture within the trees and vegetation.
