Positive words create imagery that draws “pictures” of happiness and joy. Harmony. Everything in their home shows their lives. Represents how they live. At the beginning of the story, Zora Neal Hurston describes a picturesque description about the house’s setting that brings an image of harmony that is present inside the house and its atmosphere. “Homey flowers,” develops a notion of a home sweet home atmosphere. The flowers’ appearance brings about a welcome feeling of happiness, warmth, and love. The flowers suggest the atmosphere inside the house is full of love and nurture. “Blooming cheerily” suggest an idea of growing in happiness.
