Radio History

The radio is a piece of technology that has profoundly influenced the human condition because it allows people to communicate to each other from great distances and far away places. Radio has helped revolutionize the way communication is today by influencing other pieces of technology like walkie-talkies, cell phones, and other forms of wireless communications. I think that the radio has had a huge impact in our society and our way of life.
     The radio was thought to be invented on December 12, 1901, by an Italian Inventor named Guglielmo Marconi when he was trying to improve upon the telegraph. “Marconi has been called the Father of Radio. ... Stubblefield of Murray, Kentucky, is rumored to have transmitted voice via radio as early as 1892. ... De Forest came up with numerous radios patents and Fessenden sent the first voice transmission over the radio.
     Nathan Stubblefield was extremely insane for not marketing the radio when he had the chance to. ...
     Another person thought to be the inventor of the radio was Nikola Tesla. ... Supreme Court in 1943, and the court acknowledged Nikola Tesla as the official inventor of the radio instead of Guglielmo Marconi.
     A big turning point for the radio was when in 1912, a distress came from the Titanic. ... ”6 From then on, many people had new views of the radio and its usefulness. Congress even passed a legislation saying that there had to be a radio and radio operators on every ship. Once again the radio has been proven as a useful piece of technology, but it took a tragic event for people to realize it.
     The first radio station to start broadcasting was KDKA in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
