Theme of Injustice in Shakespeare s Plays
The theme of injustice is used often in literature to elicit sympathy from the readers for the victims. In Shakespeare’s tragedies – Othello, Hamlet, and Much Ado About Nothing (comedy), the female characters are faced with unjust and tragic endings, brought onto them not by their own fault but by the fault of others. In Othello, Desdemona is met with injustice as she faces being murdered by Othello for no reason. ... The injustice lies in the fact that Desdemona was pure – she was not tainted by a love affair with a man other than her husband. ... Shakespeare brings out the readers’ emotions of sympathy by portraying Desdemona as a pure soul, the purest that any human can ever get, and by comparing to Othello’s evil craziness. In addition, the final point where Shakespeare grabs the readers’ attention is where Desdemona tells everyone she has no one but herself to take the blame for her death.
