“Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Brontë contains many Romantic Fiction elements, such as an independent medieval character abused in her youth, a dark and mysterious hero, a rival fiancée and a large gothic house
The main character, Jane, endures her childhood at Gateshead, as she is unfavoured and cruelly treated by her perceptively wicked aunt and her servants. One such event of cruelty is when Jane is locked up in the “Red Room”, a room which is supposedly haunted by the dead master of the house. The terror of Jane is explained to us through many connotations linked to death, such as “tabernacle”, “shrouded” and “pale”. Also, several size-related words are used to show that Jane feels small in the Red Room. ... ” The combination of these three effects conveys Jane’s fear of staying in the red room. This makes Jane mature, as she wants to show her belief of moral to her aunt as to stop her being bullied by her in an argument.
