MATHS TIME

Does a persons age affect their ability to estimate time?

We all know that we do not feel time passing at a steady rate. At some stages time appears to move very slowly (eg. I’ve got a month to do the Maths Coursework, I’ll get it done easily); but sometimes time feels as if goes very fast (eg. I’ve got one day left to do my maths coursework and I haven’t started it yet)

The passing of time is only a perception by the person that is experiencing it. The ‘same’ time can be seen as different lengths by different people. First I will look at some of the primary things that could affect an individual’s perception of passing time.

·     Employment – it is be an integral part of some jobs to be able to estimate time accurately. People engaged in this employment may be better at judging time than other people
·     Experience – this is linked to employment; some people may have had more experience at judging time, and will therefore be better at it
·     Situation – Depending on the situation that a person is in, their ability to accurately estimate time will change
·     Sex – The sex of a person may have an effect on their perception of passing time
·     IQ/intelligence – The intelligence of a person may also have an effect
·     Age – The age of a person may also have an effect on their ability to estimate time.
