“Art Upsets, Science Reassures”- Braque
-Analysing and evaluating this claim
One might say that Braque is trying to define what art and science is. He
is saying that everything that upsets is art and that everything that
reassures is science. ... This paper will
focus on Braque,s quote "Art upsets, science reassures", and it will
discuss and analyse that claim.
It would be beneficial to define what art is. According to a dictionary art
is defined as "the expression of human creative talent". This is a very
dime definition and on a personal note it is the authors strong belief that
art can not be defined i. ... there is not universal explanation of what art
is. ... The proves and methods are as beautiful as they are
complex and while the author of this paper would consider it to be art most
people would say that it is a science i. ... art as such can not be defined.
Picasso ones said: "Everything can be explained scientifically today,
except Art. ... "
But we probably must consider that when Braque speaks about art he means
the creative expression of a human such as paintings, sculptures, film,
theatre etc. ...
What is it that upsets people about art? ... And
is it not true that art can be a great comfort an even give people answers
about life? What are the aims of art, what does the artist which to
accomplish? ... But art does not have any significant importance in the way that
science does. That is to say that art effects the emotions and the souls of
people rather that their physiological existence. It is the beholder that
has the potential to make art important. ... For it is the beholder who makes the art
beautiful or ugly, it is the beholder who makes the art unethical or
ethical, it is the beholder who gets upset or reassured.
