Taking Charge of Change
Book Report
What I gathered from the book Taking Charge of Change by Douglas Smith is that as managers or employees as part of a team we must embrace change. The only way to effectively implement such change is if the team embraces the change together. In the text Smith cites that having good leadership just does not cut it. ... It is much easier to talk about change then it is to actually do something. ... Through my observations over the years it seems to me that personal change is one of the hardest things to do. ... If he did not change his ways no one would hang around him while he was drinking. ... Especially the second principle: Continually increase the number of individuals joining you in taking responsibility for change. If only one person had told our friend to change or face the music than he might of not done anything. It also brings up the tenth principle: practice leadership based on the courage to live the change you wish to bring about. Without the courage to voice or act out the changing which you need there will be no change. Smith’s principles are only logical when it comes to key performance.
