Sense and Sensibility I am glad times have changed and women are not treated like they were in the 18th century. It was much easier for men to live than for women. Women did not have a lot of say. They were not allowed much or to be left money. At the beginning of the film Henry Dashwood dies unexpectedly. His estate and all his money is left to his son from another marriage. This is because it is the law, his current family that he was engaged with at the time was left nothing, but enough to get by. Edward who is the brother of John, who inherited the estate, comes to visit but captures the heart of Elinor Daswood. But before they are able to express their feelings for each other, Edward is sent to London by his jealous sister. Elinor’s sister shortly is swept away by Willoughby. Elinor does not like the show they have been giving to the public.
