The theme of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is the restriction of freedom of speech. The majority of the people in the book probably did not realize, mind or care the restriction put on them by not allowing them to read books. The majority of the people of the United States of America do not realize how fortunate they really are to have the right to say what they want, read what they want, and watch what they want. In Fahrenheit 451 the government censored all books but comics, the good old confessions, and the trade journals were also allowed (pg. 58). The attitude was that they did not care that books took years to write and told wonderful stories of fact and fiction as long as they had their comics.
