Teaching advanced placement human geography
Journal of Geography
The College Board is making decisions about adding human geography to its Advanced Placement program. ... The main objectives in this article are to get the AP human geography program started in North America. The board as well as the geography development committee both come together to come to a conclusion or a focus point in the arraignment to begin this program.
Given the time and space constraints involved in this project, the articles on the major subsections of the outline make no attempt to provide comprehension summaries of the material that needs to be covered in an introductory AP human geography course. Instead, they set forth critical issues and perspectives that individual committee members regard as important in teaching particular sections of the course. ... The context of the course will have to have certain outlines that will be placed upon every teacher that will be teaching this course.
The Advanced Placement geography development committee did not seek to develop an extended essay on Part I of the outline because that part is primarily concerned with material that finds concrete expression in the topical sections that follow.
