Same-Sex Education
Can you imagine walking into a public school and not seeing any boys? This idea of same-sex education has been the cause of much argument in the last few years. Sex differences are inherently interesting to the scientist and layperson alike. Although there is little research to support or dismiss the idea, it is still a debated issue in the education world. ... One stronghold in the same-sex education debate is complying with Title IX. Same-sex education has costs and benefits in the areas of adolescent development in terms of physical, cognitive, social and self. It is a matter of individual opinion whether same-sex education is better or worse for the student.
Title IX is the civil-rights law that does not allow gender discrimination in education. Title IX laws prohibit teachers from many things such as: administering sex biased tests; establishing an all male safety patrol; and separating physical education classes by gender. It is debated whether to amend Title IX to make it easier for single sex schools to exist by the Bush administration.
