Response Paper #1: The Innocents At the beginning of the film, The Innocents, the uncle remarks, “Truth is very seldom understood by any but imaginative persons.” This comment was a pertinent theme running throughout this frustrating movie. This movie was frustrating due to the fact that the viewer can never really know what is actually occurring. The director never makes it aware whether or not everyone at Bly is on the same page as one another. This is parallel to how the characters feel; never sure who can truthfully hear and see what, and where the line is between reality and imagination. It is extremely difficult to discern between who is telling the truth or not throughout this movie.
