The Season of War
John 2:13-22
“To everything there is a season. ... ”
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to laugh, a time to weep
A time to build up, a time to break down
A time of war, a time of peace
We are now in one of these times – a season of war. ... But one must remember, war is nothing new. Just take a look in the Bible, it’s full of war. ... Because life is full of war. ... That’s why it’s appropriate for us this morning to take a look at this season of war and what the Bible has to say in regards to it. ... ” But in the Bible there are also instances when God goes before his people in war. ...
So is God for or against war? ... You can find in the scriptures many positions on war, sometimes for it sometimes against it. Sometimes God blesses the efforts of men in war; sometimes he frustrates those efforts. ... " So what about war? First, you have to look at the real causes of war: The Bible says that two things cause most wars: selfishness and pride. ... As Ecclesiastes reminds us, “to everything there is a season; A time to be born, a time to die, a time to plant, a time to reap, a time to build up, a time to break down, and yes even a time of war, a time of peace. ... Sometimes war is unavoidable. ... There are many, many examples in the Bible where God commanded a war - where God said, “Go to war! ... In Numbers 32, God gets very upset - in fact, he expresses anger at two tribes in Israel - because they WOULDN’T go to war. ... There are some things that are worse than war. ... Nations will never again to go to war, never prepare for battle again. ...
The question Ive probably been asked more than any other one in the past few weeks is this:
Is This The Final War? ... ” In the last 3,400 years there have only been 268 years that have seen no war. ...
How should we - as Christians - respond during war? ... Though an army besiege me and war break out against me, even then I will be confident.” While we pray for our soldiers, we also accept the fact that when war happens, there are casualties. ... We are to be a family - an extended family - where we act as an extended network of support for those whose lives are influenced and affected by this war
