In the 19th century the United States government passed several acts of legislation in attempts to stop and punish the practice of polygamy. This practice of polygamy came under attack by social activists very similar to how slavery and alcohol had. The Morrill Act, the Poland Act, the Edmunds Act, and the Edmunds-Tucker Act all had different provisions, yet were all aimed at the same goal of stopping polygamy. ...
