1 a.) There were a number of things that Cisco did that I felt helped them succeed in their implementation:
· Selecting the ERP package - The management team incorporated the best people they could find from the various Cisco business communities and created a strong integration partnership with KPMG. Also, Ciscos use of benchmarking and research in selecting a system was extremely thorough. ... It was smart of Cisco to use this resource in conjunction with the experiences of others. ...
· Budgeting - Cisco estimated the budget for this large-scale project without a cost benefit analysis because they wanted to send a signal to the organization that they are willing to invest in the future but also because they really had no other option due to their failing systems. ... ) This case is a good example of how, despite great support and initial PM planning, when working under tight deadlines and with an ‘incomplete’ map of what needs to get done, there are many unexpected events and factors that can create implementation difficulties. However, Cisco was able to overcome most of their obstacles:
· The need for change becomes very evident once the computer system goes down for a couple of days.
