If you cannot communicate it, it isn‘t knowledge.
I completely disagree with the statement „ If you cannot communicate it, it isn‘t knowledge,“ as I believe that there are various factors that can be used to prove the opposite. The statement implies that if something cannot be explained or verbally expressed, it is nonexistent. In the following essay I will discuss this idea, linking it to Plato, Piaget, and other theories, explaining these and the connections between communication and knowledge. ... According to the statement above, because my friend wouldn‘t be able to grasp the meaning of what I am trying to say from my feeble attempts of speaking french, it would mean my point is invalid and not knowledge. I still know a mathematical formula, even if i can‘t translate it into French. Knowledge is, in my opinion, the understanding of a certain topic gained through experience or study. If I tried to explain this math theory to my friend, in french, I would most likely understand it myself, and therefore it would be knowledge. Even though I cant get her to grasp the meaning from my french, this formula would be known to me, and everyone else with an understanding of mathematics, and it would still be knowledge, even though not for that certain friend. Just because I cannot translate something does not make it nonexistent. ... These things are instinctive and introspective knowledge. ... Yet only because we cannot communicate whether it is for example fluffy or non-fluffy snow, because we are lacking the specific word, does not mean we cannot distinguish between the two. ... “ It is true that we take language for granted, and it could alter the way we think, but in the end knowledge doesn‘t always need words. ...
Its a circle one cannot figure out, if the basis of knowledge is language or personal interpretation, would you then say that language is the basis of knowledge? ... To me this theory creates an inner and an outer world, the inner being your knowledge, and the outer your ability to explain it.
