Rain and “stupidity” are two significant reasons as to why I had my first car accident. It was not only “stupidity” on my part, but also the driver of the other car. I was eighteen years old and just moved to the Huntsville area. Being from Southern California, where it rarely rains, I was not experienced with driving in rainy weather conditions. I thought I would be safe driving a couple of miles under the speed limit. Apparently, this was not so. I was approaching a green light at the Highway 72 and Indian Creek intersection, driving approximately 45 mph. It was raining extremely hard and had been all morning, causing the roads to be slick. I thought everything was okay until the driver of the Buick in front of me came to a halting stop right in the middle of the intersection.
