Micro reading on the trailer to ‘Seabiscuit’
Seabiscuit is based on the book by Laura Hillenbrand about a real race horse in the depression era. ... In this essay I aim to show how the mise-en-sen affect our feelings for each of the characters in the trailer for ‘Seabiscuit’.
The trailer starts off with some sad slow music played by the strings, this immediate playing of music gives us an impression of the over all genre of the film. As the trailer goes on (for example the horserace) the pace of the music quickens to increase the audiences suspense of the race. Another example of the music through the trailer is when it becomes almost epic and played orchestra this usually shows a glorious victory or maybe a cheerful time in one of the characters life and makes helps make with the feeling the director is trying to put across. ... This is probably the most emotional part of the trailer because of the way the mise-en-scen show us that this father had everything and how it was lost in a moment. ...
In the trailer subtitles appear to give hints about each of the characters background, these usually use over dramatised words so that the director can squeeze even more sympathy out of the audience.
