When the Pig Head Spoke

“Lord of the Flies” written by William Gerald Golding is a dark story which explores the latent evil which hovers about the primitive corners of the human mind, and what could become of it if were left unchecked. The society that this evil snakes it’s way into in this story is a group of young boys who were on a plane flying away from the nuclear war which had started. The plane crashes into an island and leaves the boys completely alone without any adults to direct them. Their society is a civil one at first with its conch, and platform as symbols of democracy and process, but this small society quickly degenerates into an animalistic mob. Out of the primitive jungle each boy comes. Out of the wreckage of a plane flying away from nuclear war. Lured by the sound of Ralph blowing the conch shell. The conch has a power to gather the boys onto the beach, and as they slowly gather a small group of boys comes marching out of the dark jungle. The boy leading this organized group who are still in their choir outfits is Jack.
