The Tao can mean “the way to live.” Originally written by Lao-tzu as a guide for a ruling sage to follow, the Tao-te Ching can be a set of rules for a modern politician to follow as well, in order to become one with the Tao. However, the Tao-te Ching can be used to address a variety of issues such as a stock market crash, a natural disaster, or a foreign invasion. A Taoist politician must understand the many messages of the Tao-te Ching and relate them to his or her situation. Tao is an ambiguous word, but by following the Tao-te Ching, a Taoist politician will be sure to “have everything fall into place.”
