In every feature film, certain techniques are used to character development. Characterisation is how a character is structured, portrayed, their qualities and how they are built up within the film. Everything that the script writer chooses the character to do and say, is all part of this technique. In the feature film 10 Things I Hate About You - starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, who plays Kat, a main character - it shows how characterisation works. First impressions of Kat were very strong. The script writer has purposely done this. In the first scene, Kat stops at a red light, in an old used car, with her grunge rock music blaring.
