Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi also known as Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 to Kaba Gandhi and Putlibai in Porbandar. ... ”(Gadhi, 5) Mahatma was seven when his father left for Rajkot to become a member of the Rajasthanik Court.
Gandhi was married at the age of thirteen to a young girl by the name of Kasturbai, whose father was a friend to the family. Gandhi disagreed with that marriage in fact on page 7 of his biography he stated “As I see the youngsters of the same age about me who are under my care, and think of my own marriage, I am inclined to pity myself and to congratulate them on having escaped my lot. ... ” (Gandhi, 10)
In 1887 Mahatma passed the matriculation exam. ... Being that Gandhi was the only boy in the family who persevered in his studies, he was sent to Bhavnagar, which was the nearest town with a college. ... (Nanda, 24) Gandhi’s baby was only a few months old at the time of his depature. Gandhi’s people were agitated about him going abroad, the people said “In the opinion of the caste, your proposal to go to England is not proper. ... ” (Gandhi, 34) Gandhi replied by saying “I do not think it is at all against our religion to go to England. ... ” (Gandhi, 34)
“His sense of isolation increased after he landed in England. ... ” (Nanda, 26)
Gandhi and an English passenger was having a conversation and the topic of food came up, Gandhi told him that he does not eat meat and the passenger laughed at him telling him “It is all very well so far but you will have to revise your decision in the Bay of Biscay. ... ” (Gandhi, 36) Gandhi thanked the passenger for his advice and told him that he will abide by his mother rules and not eat meat, if he have to eat meat he would rather go back to India. Mahatma was called to the Bar on June 10, 1891 having passed his exams, he then sailed for India.
Gandhi began the study of Indian law in Bombay, he later took a case in Small Causes Court.
