-The South Carolina State Legislature met to respond to the Tariff of 1824, and effectively nullified it while threatening to secede from the union if necessary. Jackson responded to uphold the union, and the compromise Tariff was passed, along with the force act, that gave the president the power to use to army and navy to collect duties. -If South Carolina had been stopped at this point, there might have been no civil war and lives and money could have been saved. -Andrew Jackson vetoed the bill to re-charter the Bank of the U.S. on the grounds that he found it harmful to the nation. Henry Clay would try to use this against him in the upcoming election. -The bank of the U.S. was an economic giant that was useful but slightly corrupt. Although it was a giant, it was made politically vulnerable because it was based on the people’s trust. -Jackson swept the election of 1832 between Henry Clay and Andrew Jackson as the poor favored him, and they easily outnumbered the rich.
