Motion picture Donnie Darko, written and directed by Richard Kerry, at first appears and promises to be an interesting and challenging film – which visually speaking definitely is, however sadly by the end it fails to deliver (especially story-wise…) and satisfy the viewer. ...
Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a not an average high school teen. ... However right after the camera comes upon Donnie – the world transforms into stereotypical “good morning sunshine” white suburbia. ... Again two worlds are created with framing – one is normal where framing is done in “correct” and usual way, the other one is present only when Donnie has schizophrenic episodes. ... I would like to point out one scene in particularly – the scene when the high school talent show is happening – the teen cheerleaders dance was inter-cut by the burning of the motivational “guru’s” house… To me it was absolutely breathtaking and eerie…
Sound effects and soundtrack together along with “dark” visuals create at times the most chilling and dark mood – especially when Donnie has his schizophrenic episodes!
