Some of them make more sense then others, so when you’re reading one you have to pay close attention. Izanagi and Izanami stood on a floating bridge of heaven. Izanagi took a long jeweled covered spear and dipped it into the whirling ocean. When he pulled it out, a huge island pointed out of the ocean. They called the island Onokoro. They liked the island so much that they left heaven and moved to the island. They got married and had lots of kids. Their first child was deformed, as a punishment of the gods for some past wrong-doings. They called that child, the leech-child, and put him in a reed boat and floated him off on to the open sea for him to drown. The next child became the big island of Japan. The other kids were nature like wind, mountains, and trees. The last child that Izanami gave birth to was the fire god. While she was giving birth to him, she was burned to death. Izanagi cried, and the tears became gods and goddesses. After that, he got into a horrible rage. In anger, he took his sword and chopped of his son’s, the fire god’s, head. Izanagi then went to the land of the dead to save his wife, but when he found her, she was rotting. When he saw her, he was so scared that he ran away to the sea to wash away the bad memories, and as he cried hundreds of more gods and goddesses came out. From his left eye was the sun god, and from his right eye was the moon god, his nose was sea, storm and rain god. When he was finish, he left the island and went back to heaven. According to the Greeks, there were Gaea and Uranus. Gaea was also known as Mother Earth and Uranus was Lord of the Sky.
