Nursing Shortage Effects Patient Care
The nursing shortage in the United States is jeopardizing the health of patients and putting patient’s lives at stake. Immediate changes need to occur in the health care industry or patient care will continue to deteriorate causing an increase in medical errors and unneeded deaths. The solutions to this shortage include transforming the nursing workplace, creating more nursing programs and educational opportunities that are financially accessible, and health care facilities investing in high-quality nursing care. Nurses are the primary source of care and support for patients at the most vulnerable points in their lives.
Every health care experience, from birth to death and all medical care in between, involves a Registered Nurse (JAHCO 7). Over the years, the role of the Registered Nurse (RN) has changed dramatically from one of providing assistance to the doctor to one of providing total patient care.
