I chose to write this modules paper on the dangers faced by law enforcement officers. Not surprisingly, an officer faces many different dangers ranging from those of a medical nature to those involving line of duty activities. With at least 740,000 sworn law enforcement officers serving in the United States (5) it is only a statistical matter that something is going to happen to at least one of them.

Just a few “morbidly interesting” facts that I found on an Indiana Law Enforcement page (5):
· The oldest officer to die in the LOD was 80 year-old Dotson Sutton of Pulaski County. ... Secondary to the high stress and high physical demands a law enforcement officer faces, cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death, occurring more often than death by assault (3). Additionally, more than 400 of the officers listed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial died from cardiac arrest in the line of duty. ...
According to this press release, 42 law enforcement officers were killed feloniously in the line of duty.
