Latin America is a land blessed with a great number of the necessary ingredients for making a large landmass both socially and fiscally successful. ... Once the conquests began, Latin America started on a historical path of being exploited by any other society with the power and will to do so. Although there were a few minor high points in going through the five stages of “Modernization,” Latin America’s incorporation into the world Capitalist system was a very rough, and mostly unsuccessful, process. Instead of reaping the benefits along with the other developed Capitalist nations as the “horn of plenty” promotes, Latin America continues to be used as a “ladder” by other developed capitalist nations; in using this ladder, developed Capitalist nations reach up and consume all that underdeveloped nations can possibly provide, leaving nothing but pain and suffering for those being used and stepped on.
The first stage of Latin American integration began with the Spanish conquests. In 1492, Columbus set sail on a voyage that would begin one of the most gruesome cases of genocide in world history. Funding was one of the first major contributions from Latin America to what would eventually become the world Capitalist system. ... Labor was another key aspect of Latin American incorporation into the world Capitalist system.
