Hip-Hop is one of the most controversial musical genres since it is always on debate whether it has negative or positive influences. The majority of people think that Hip-Hop has social and cultural negative consequences maybe because it came from poor neighborhoods of New York that involve a spoken-word vocal that employed slang to tell stories (sometimes brutal topics of street life) about what was happening in the city streets (Hip-Hop. ... According to journalist Dave Obuchowsky, “People against Hip-Hop argue that this form of music preaches violence (domestic and social), rape and murder. I will admit right now that there are hip-hop artists and songs that do preach negative messages; however, [ . ... Obuchowsky because there are many Hip-Hop lyrics that are about sex, drugs, and violence. For instance, Ice Cube, a famous Hip-Hop artist, has a song called “Gangsta Gangsta” (Priority 2003) where he sings,
"Heres a little something by a nigga like me/ Never shouldve been let out the penitentiary/ Ice Cube would like to say that Im a crazy motherf----- from around the way/ Since I was a youth I smoked weed out/ Now Im the motherf----- you read about/ Taking a life or two/ Thats what I do. ... However, Ice Cube does not represent all of hip-hop. The world of Hip-Hop is very big, and there is, also, a positive side to it.
One way to verify that Hip-Hop music is not always negative is by listening to the lyrics of various Hip-Hop artists.
