Lace Medallion

As we walked into the Galerie Lelong, you could hear the overbearing sounds of a mechanically functioned piece of art. As you walk past the room that housed the loud art piece, your attention is drawn to a 25ft cedar structure that seems to be leaning against a white barren wall. The cedar structure is presented under florescent lighting that helps to create drastic shadows. The piece is called Lace Medallion, and was created by Ursula von Rydingsvard. Lace Medallion seems to be a befitting title to this piece of artwork. The foundation structure of the piece standing at 25ft high and 23ft wide is a flat structure of cedar wood. There are arc like engravings that begin about three fourths of the way to the top of the base structure. The engraving marks seem to flow in a naturally chaotic way. Each flowing arc seems to intersect another arc at some point in its journey to the bottom of the structure. It looks almost like the roots of a tree or plant flowing into the ground and entangling in one another. Along with the arc like etchings that flow downward, there are horizontal small etchings that are done within the ovular spaces that are created when the larger arcs intersects.
