Biblical vs. Gilgamesh Epic
Religious scholars, historians, and even scientists are always debating whether or not “the flood” could have actually happened. ... This is the case with the Biblical Genesis account and the Babylonian Gilgamesh Epic, which are both accounts for the same event. ... In the Biblical aspect, it was planned by God (Yahweh), and with the Gilgamesh Epic it was planned by an entire council of gods, namely; Anu, Enlil, Ninurta, Ennugi, Ea, and Ishtar. ... ” {Genesis 6:1-13} While Gilgamesh says that it was the noise of man that disturbed the gods rest. ... The Bible says that God felt it was highly ethical and just while the Gilgamesh deities felt ethically ambiguous and then later regretted it. ... The Gilgamesh is very similar to this. ... The Bible says the mountains of Ararat, and the Gilgamesh Epic says Mount Nisir. ... Genesis says that they had sacrifices of worship, and Gilgamesh had sacrifices for appeasement. ... Gilgamesh says that is was only 6 days and nights. ...
It seems that the Biblical account makes much more sense than the Babylonian. Since this is in two separate texts, the Biblical and the Babylonian, with some minor differences, we can see for ourselves that it is just about the same idea.
