Untitled Although not given a name, the violin cadenza that Isaac Stern plays over the opening credits is notable in its brilliance and is a valuable addition to the film. Matchmaker Sung by Tzeitel, Hodel and Chava, the song recounts the limited dreams of girls whose matrimony is determined for them by others. It is only when the reality of their situation (being poor) presents itself that they begin to realize that perhaps arranged marriage isn't for them. If I Were a Rich Man Another Tevye song, "Rich Man" is his conversation with God, in which he contemplates what his life could be like if God had made him wealthy. His fantasies are quite elaborate, although in the end, with a shrug he accepts his fate. Sabbath Prayer A duet by Tevye and Golde, the main melody is sung by Golde, while Tevye sings a tenor harmony. This is a fairly simple song that effectively accompanies scenes of families all over town celebrating the Sabbath. To Life Sung as a celebration of the impending marriage of Tzeitel to the butcher Lazar Wolf, the focus on this song is more on the choreography. Set in the local tavern, the celebrating Jews are toasted and feted by the local ethnic Russians, who break out in a traditional folk dance. Miracle of Miracles Motel has proven himself a man, gets the girl and is on his way to happiness. This song, my least favourite in the movie, has a somewhat sing-song format and doesn't really fit in with the others.
