Imagine, it’s a typical Friday night and you are out at a party with your friends and you notice one of your friends who came with you is drinking at an astounding rate, you tell him to slow down, but he doesn’t. ... This may sound unreal, but binge drinking is a growing problem among college students across America.
I have spent countless hours researching binge drinking and the results have done nothing short of shock me! ... College binge drinking is more of an issue than ever, in recent years the alcohol industry has stepped up its efforts to convince student, school administrators, and even health officials that the problem is not that serious. Yet the fact is that at least 2 out of every 5 students regularly binge drink resulting in approximately 14 hundred student deaths per year, along with distressing number of assaults and rapes and countless cases of academic suicide.
In the next few minutes I will be informing you what binge drinking is and how people get started, the severity of it in our colleges and some of the effects it has on the drinker and those around them.
First let’s talk about the actual definition of binge drinking. ... And now for when it may start, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism binge drinking can start as early as 13 years old and tends to increase throughout the adolescent years peaking in young adulthood 18-20 years old.
