At the age of 14, a young man prepared himself to take entrance exams at a high school that he had long anticipated attending. He approached the school with his mother as she assured him, “everything will by be alright Ronnie” and he hoped that she was right. He limped through the doorway, showing a handicapped walk resulting from a bad hip. As he went to get directions of where to go, his mother was stopped by the employee, “that boy can’t be taking the exam, he’s clearly handicapped.” The comment started commotion between the school employee and the mother, eventually resulting in a rush of school officials to calm the situation before the other testing students were startled. The compromise that they emerged with was to let Ronnie test, although they were certain that he would fail as a handicapped child.
