Low Status Job: in the United States today, there are two white hospital orderlies to every one white physician, whereas there are twenty-five African American orderlies to every one African American physician. In 1999 African American are considered for 94.6% of all private household workers, 44.5% of all cleaning and building service workers, and 88.5% of all health service assistants, aides, nurse, and attendants. (K, D.202, 203) Employed black persons as percent of all employed persons in the civil labor force, by selecting occupation, 1998: Food preparation and service occupation is 11.8%, cleaning and building service occupation is 22.8%, health service occupations is 30.1%, and transportation and material moving occupation is 16.3%( Black American: A statistical source book, pg 203).
