On Thursday, October 16 our class attended the opera ‘Faust.’ The show was organized by the Utah Opera with instrumental music provided by the Utah Symphony. The opera dealt with the battle between good and evil while addressing the balance they gave each other; like Yin and Yang. ... ’
The opera opened with an aged Faust in his study in a very cynical state. ... Much to Faust’s surprise and eventual dismay, the devil appears. The devil was clothed like Faust and at first, the devil and Faust go through a ‘mirror, mirror’ game. Without going into incredible detail, suffice it to say that Faust sells his soul to the devil in return for youth and the promise of a young, beautiful woman.
Currently, I do not wish to delve too deeply into the plot and a blow by blow account of the opera since that is not really the focus of this report.
