John Steinbeck¡¯s Use of Symbolism in ¡®The Pearl¡¯ John Steinbeck is a famous American writer that loved to write about nature and needy people. In his novels and novellas, he uses transferred epithets, simple sentences, vocabulary, and symbolism. Symbolism is the novella ¡®The Pearl¡¯ is about a place in Mexico. It starts with a scorpion biting Kino and Juana¡¯s baby, Coyotito. The baby got stung and the poison went in the body. Juana then went to the doctor and the doctor won¡¯t heal the baby because his family didn¡¯t have any money. So Kino went to find a good pearl that would pay for the expense. He found the pearl which people call ¡®The Pearl of the World¡¯. Just as he finds the pearl, Coyotito¡¯s sting heals. So Kino says that he and Juana will get married, and Coyotito will get an education. When Kino tries to sell it, but the pearl buyers is a cartel, so they give him a really low price. So he decides to go to the city to get a better price.
