Statement of Purpose In a world full of competition, undergraduate education is simply inadequate to remain competitive in industry. Even though experience is also important, I believe one should pursue proper academic career before he can be prepared to pursue his professional career. During my undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering, Computer system is the one of the subject that most fascinated me although I still keep my options open. It has vast applications in the daily life, especially in the modern life. This has motivated me to pursue further work in this area. To enrich my knowledge further, this spring of 2003, I worked with Prof. Vahid R. Riasati of California State Polytechnic University of Pomona on a project that investigated JPEG compression using matlab simulink. The first objective of this project was to understand the basic method of compression in the JPEG.
