Peter is known by many names in the New Testament:
Simon–His given name, which is Jewish
Simon Bar-Jona–Simon; Bar means son; Jona or John means “Simon son of Jona”.
Cephas–Aramaic and means stone, Petros or Peter.
Peter–name given by Jesus. ...
Peter was a fisherman by trade with his brother Andrew. It was Andrew who brought Peter to Jesus.
Peter, we know, later would deny Jesus three times. ...
Peter has three names, as stated earlier. ...
Even after Peter accepted Jesus’ call, Peter remained close to the sea. ... Matthew 17 relates the story of the Tax Money, where Peter caught a fish and money was in its mouth.
Matthew 18:23-27 is another record of ‘Peter and the Sea’. Peter was all too familiar with the Sea of Galilee and knew that squalls could appear from out of nowhere. ... Up comes a squall, and Peter rebuked the Master saying, “Carest thou not that we perish? ... Peter and the others bowed in humiliation and adoration at the feet of Jesus. ... Peter requested to meet Jesus on the troubled waters. As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he could and did walk on the water (the only man to ever do this besides Jesus).
