One of the first written assignments teachers give their students in the new academic year is an essay entitled "What I did on my Summer Holidays". It has been many, many years since I have attended public school, but my two sons challenged me to write an essay such as they have been asked to do. My Summer Holidays By Elke Mairs: What a wonderful time we had over the 70 days that school was not in session. With very few exceptions, the weather was great wherever we went, even if it was just into our own back yard. Canada Day allowed us the opportunity to wrap ourselves in the flag by participating in a parade, and watching fireworks as we celebrated Canada's 133rd birthday. A little rain just after the fireworks ended helped dissipate the heat a little. The next three weeks were spent close to home, going to the beach every couple of days and taking the family to the local waterslide for a day of fun.
