1) Describe the father-son relationship? The father-son relationship in the film Ordinary People is very functional. The father is very concerned about Conrad’s situation. He hires a psychiatrist for his son to get the help that is needed, and wants him to get on with his life. Conrad also gets along well with his father, but it is obvious that the past has deeply affected their relationship. The father wants to be a happy family, and he wants the best for Conrad. 2) Describe the mother- son relationship? The mother-son relationship is very disfunctional and definitely needs improvement. They do not get along well at all. Beth’s certain behaviors has made Conrad think that she doesn’t love him at all. He explains this to Dr. Berger by saying, “Why she can’t love me? She loves father, I know she loves my brother. Why me?” and yells, “ What did I do! What did I do! What did I do.” Conrad tries to get into a conversation with his mother. However, she always avoids him. 3) Describe the mother-father relationship? At first, the mother- father relationship seemed perfect.
