Parenting has brought about new and different challenges in my life. My life has not been the same since the day I gave birth to my daughter Quinnette. She was born on May 2, 2002. My life has not been the same. I have had to adjust to almost losing my baby during delivery, learning how to take care of my newborn and budgeting my finances. Even though I experienced those challenges, I am blessed to have support from my baby’s daddy, Kendol, my mother, and members of my church family. I have been able to cope with all the new challenges. My hospital stay was the scariest experience in my life. When I first went to the hospital, the doctor told me that I had dilated two centimeters and my water had broken. I was only 36 weeks pregnant. He sent me upstairs to labor and delivery. However, the labor and delivery doctor told me that I was not ready to have the baby and that I had not dilated nor had my water broken. She was about to send me home when my mother walked in the door. The doctor, then, decided to let me stay over night since they had me hooked up to all those machines. My mother stayed with me. Well, that night about 12,o’clock, another doctor came in and told me that my water had broken and I had dilated two centimeters. I was relieved because I wanted to have my baby. Quinnette was finally born at 4:52a.m. She came out blue. She lost a lot of oxygen while she was inside of me because I was not able to push her out until my doctor arrived. I was very concerned. She later received oxygen in the nursery; that night, after she started breathing normal, she was wheeled to my room. I was very happy. Quinnette was able to come home with me from the hospital. Parenting is a wonderful and exciting experience.
