Weight training and fitness programs have become the most popular trends for the new millennium. Everyday the media bombards the American public with advertisements stressing personal fitness. The ads target the vulnerable feelings of the general public that strive to become more like the popular cultural icons that have seemingly perfect physiques. In my quest to achieve the perfect physique I found sports, the lack of confidence in my fitness level, and bad health the causes for my adopting this new trend that seems to be extremely addictive. The immediate cause for my taking up weight training was sports. In order to break the barrier from middle school sports to high school athletics an athlete must become an avid weight lifter. The athletes that compete in high school and higher level athletics all train year round on strict routines to maintain high fitness levels. My high school wrestling and football coach each had their separate ideas and views on how to weight lift.
