Takeshi was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1947 as the youngest person in his family. Takeshi later revealed in interviews that he only ever spoke to his father, a suspected Yazuka member, three times in his father’s lifetime. ...

Then in 1985 he added another title to himself when he directed his first film Violent Cop by mere accident, it was supposed to be directed by Kinji Fukasaku a well-known martial art director but he had to pull out so Takeshi stepped in and directed his first film.
Kitano’s career was nearly ended in August 1994 when he drank a massive amount of alcohol and decided to go out on his moped and left his helmet untied, he crashed he miraculously survived but spent almost four months in isolation in hospital, suffering from scull fractures and a broken jaw. ...
Trivia: He is always credited as "Beat Takeshi" as an actor, and always credited as "Kitano Takeshi" as a director
