This is an essay about Mr. Zachariah in The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. He is very kind, caring, and he is old and helpless. Zachariah is very kind to Charlotte. He helps her when she is sick, and also makes her a mini sailor outfit which she likes but cannot wear because it is "unlady like." Zachariah also gives her food when she was hungry and tries to warn her about Captain Jaggery. He is caring because he gives Charlotte the dirk to protect herself because she doesn't know about the rebellion the crew wanted to plan. Also, he was taking care of her when she was sick because he cared about her and did not want her to just be seasick with no help. When they are in the hurricane, Zachariah saves Charlotte's life when she almsot falls off the rigging which is also a sign of bravery.
