“THE WAR OVER IRAQ” by Kaplan and Kristol. One notorious dictator caused the war in Iraq. His name was Saddam Hussein. Born April 28, 1937 in a small poor neighborhood made mostly of mud huts. Saddam’s father either left his mother or died when Saddam was a small child. Taken in by his uncle Khayrallah Tulfah, Saddam learned the ways of socialism, fascism and Pan-Arab nationalism that distinguished Baathist Politics. Saddam had been a bully most of his child hood. At the age of 21, with his education complete he tried to gun down the prime minister of Iraq. Over the years Saddam was in jail more then he was out. After escaping out of jail, he returned to the life he led and became powerful. Saddam loved the movie “The Godfather”, and started to masacure people as seen in the movie and then leave the dead bodies in the street. It was said at one point the he was in his “Stalinist era” in 1989. Starting in September 1980 Saddam waged a war with Iran. This war lasted 8 years and ended on August 20th 1988. Iran called a ceasefire after accepting the U.N.’s cease fire resolution. There were close to 1 million deaths and many more injured. In 1988 President George H.W. Bush was at odds with Iran and when he found out that Iraq was at war with them, he offered our help in hopes to pull Iraq from the Soviet Union. President Bush used the saying “ The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. We provided Saddam with hundreds of millions of dollars in credits. Also supplied was bacteria, missile system components and explosives technology.
